The Delaware Solid Waste Authority (DSWA) announced today that all offices and facilities will be closed on Thursday, November 27, 2026, for Thanksgiving Day. The closure impacts the Rt. 5 Transfer Station, Jones Crossroads Landfill, and Southern Recycling Center.

According to a DSWA statement, the administrative offices will be shuttered alongside all operational facilities for the holiday. This mirrors a similar closure observed on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, when DSWA administrative offices were closed, while other facilities maintained normal business hours.

Waste Management (WM) also publishes a holiday schedule that may affect trash and recycling services. WM’s schedule indicates that Modern Year’s Day will be observed on Thursday, January 1, 2026, and Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, January 19, 2026. Presidents Day is scheduled for Monday, February 16, 2026, coinciding with Family Day in Canada.

The DSWA’s Jones Crossroads Landfill typically operates from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM, while the Rt. 5 Transfer Station is open from 7:00 AM to 11:00 AM. The Southern Recycling Center’s regular hours are 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM. These hours will be suspended on Thanksgiving Day.

WM operates an extensive network of landfills, transfer stations, and recycling facilities across North America, and encourages residents to utilize drop-off locations for waste disposal and recycling. The company manages approximately 14 million tons of recycled or reused material annually.

The DSWA has not yet announced any operational changes related to the upcoming Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays.
