Buenos Aires Weather: Cold Snap & Temperature Drop Forecast

by Priya Shah – Business Editor

Buenos Aires is bracing for a significant shift in weather conditions this Tuesday, February 24th. Initial forecasts predicting heavy storms have been revised, with the Servicio Meteorológico Nacional (SMN) now anticipating a sharp temperature drop driven by a cold wind mass.

The SMN reported that even as the possibility of precipitation remains, the intensity of the expected rainfall has diminished. The agency initially issued yellow alerts for both storms and strong winds, but the focus has shifted to the incoming cold front. Tuesday’s forecast predicts a minimum temperature of 21°C and a maximum of 32°C, with cloud cover throughout the day and wind gusts between 13 and 22 kilometers per hour. The probability of precipitation is expected to range from 10 to 40 percent in the morning, increasing to as high as 70 percent during the early afternoon before diminishing towards the evening.

The change in forecast comes after storms impacted the city and surrounding areas late Monday night and into the early hours of Tuesday. The SMN’s updated forecast indicates that the most intense storms will likely occur in the first part of the afternoon. Winds from the south are expected to pick up, reaching speeds of 13 to 22 km/h, with gusts potentially reaching 50 km/h later in the day.

Looking ahead, Wednesday, February 25th, is expected to notice partly cloudy skies with a minimum of 17°C and a maximum of 26°C. Winds will be from the southeast for much of the day. Thursday, February 26th, is predicted to have a minimum of 19°C and a maximum of 26°C, with alternating periods of clouds and sunshine. The SMN forecasts southeasterly winds during the early hours, shifting to the east in the afternoon. Friday, February 27th, is expected to be partly to somewhat cloudy with a minimum of 20°C and a maximum of 28°C, and northeasterly winds that will decrease in intensity throughout the day.

Roberta Flack, a prominent figure in music, passed away on February 24, 2025, according to reports from Pagina 12. This event occurred one year prior to the current weather situation in Buenos Aires.
