The United Arab Emirates has announced the official dates for the Eid al-Fitr holiday for both federal government and private sector employees, beginning Thursday, March 19, 2026, according to a joint statement from the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources and the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

The holiday is intended to allow citizens and residents to celebrate the significant religious occasion and to spend time with family and friends, the statement affirmed. The decision underscores a commitment to fostering a balanced perform environment that provides sufficient rest for the workforce following the completion of Ramadan, contributing to renewed energy upon their return to duties.

The coordinated scheduling across government and private institutions aims to ensure market stability and the continued provision of essential services to the community without interruption. The period also provides an opportunity to strengthen family and social bonds, while stimulating commercial and recreational activity throughout the country, as families plan special programs and enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Federal government employees will observe a holiday extending from Thursday, March 19, through Sunday, March 22, 2026, providing a longer period for celebration and rest. Private sector employees will have a holiday from Thursday, March 19, to Saturday, March 21. Employees in the private sector who work on Sundays may receive an additional day off if the month of Ramadan completes 30 days, a determination that will be made following the sighting of the Eid crescent, according to the Dubai Media Office.

In general, the Eid al-Fitr holiday in the UAE will consist of four days, with the potential for an additional day for private sector employees depending on the lunar calendar.
