Lausanne-Sport’s youth academy experienced a weekend of contrasting results, with the M16 and M17 teams securing victories while the M19 and M21 sides faced defeats and the M15s suffered a heavy loss in a preparation match. The M16 team, coached by Xavier Margairaz and Adilson Cabral, continued their strong form with a 3-0 win against the FC Aarau academy on Saturday at the Centre Sportif de la Tuilière, marking their second consecutive success and positioning them second in the “Elite” M16 group standings.
The M17 team as well triumphed over FC Aarau, winning 2-0 with goals from Eduardo Iezzi and Oscar Renovales, the latter scoring from a penalty. This victory places them tenth in their respective league table. However, the M19s were unsuccessful in their match against Aarau, losing 2-1 despite taking an early lead through Aukan Moraga. The team conceded two goals in quick succession between the 67th and 70th minutes, leaving them tenth in the standings.
The academy’s M21 team suffered a 2-0 defeat against Grand-Saconnex in a top-of-the-table clash in the 1st League, despite a solid start to the match. They remain second in the league table despite the loss. Meanwhile, the M15s were comprehensively defeated 9-3 by GC in a preparation match.
These results come as the academy operates under a new structure, established in April 2023 following the dissolution of Team Vaud. The restructuring was initiated by Lausanne-Sport president Leen Heemskerk, aiming to create a more professionalized academic structure. Matteo Vanetta, appointed Technical Director of the Academy on July 1, 2023, succeeding David Sene, is overseeing the development of players from the M15 to M21 levels. Vanetta brings extensive experience in Swiss football, having previously worked with the Swiss junior national teams and clubs like Servette and Young Boys.
The academy’s organization and objectives are under the direction of Massimo Ceccaroni, the Technical Director, as outlined in a recent presentation. The academy encompasses the M15, M16, M17, M19, and M21 age groups, with a focus on developing young talent within the Canton of Vaud.
