One person was hospitalized Friday night after a Lexus SUV collided with a California Highway Patrol vehicle on Interstate 15 near Glen Helen Parkway in Devore, authorities reported.
The crash occurred shortly after 6:00 p.m. On the southbound side of I-15, approximately one mile north of the Glen Helen Parkway exit, according to the California Highway Patrol. A white Lexus RS series SUV struck the rear of a CHP patrol vehicle.
Responders transported the injured individual to a local hospital by ground ambulance. The extent of their injuries has not been released. The identities of those involved have not been made public.
The cause of the collision is currently under investigation. CHP officials have not yet released details regarding the events leading up to the crash.
San Bernardino County has experienced a high volume of traffic collisions in recent years. In 2023, the county recorded 15,118 traffic collision victims killed or injured, ranking 32nd out of 58 California counties. Of those incidents, 1,903 involved alcohol, 870 were motorcycle-related and 651 involved pedestrians. Speed was a factor in 3,107 crashes, and 1,059 collisions were hit-and-run incidents statewide.
In 2022, the county reported 15,381 total fatal and injury victims, with 1,920 alcohol-involved crashes, 998 motorcycle victims, and 677 pedestrians killed or injured. Speed-related collisions numbered 3,176, and hit-and-run incidents reached 1,107.
Traffic cameras are positioned near the site of the accident. A camera is located on I-15 North of Glen Helen Parkway, and others are positioned south of Kenwood.
