Arsenal Defeats Tottenham 4-1: Premier League Title Race Update

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Arsenal secured a commanding 4-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in a fiercely contested north London derby on Sunday, bolstering their Premier League title aspirations. A brace from Eberechi Eze and goals from Viktor Gyökeres propelled Mikel Arteta’s side to a crucial win at Tottenham’s home ground.

The result alleviates pressure on Arsenal following recent Premier League draws. Eze, who nearly joined Tottenham before ultimately signing for Arsenal from Crystal Palace in August, proved pivotal, scoring twice in the match. His performance marked a significant return to form, having not found the net in the league since a hat-trick in the reverse fixture in November.

Gyökeres, who has faced criticism earlier in the season, also delivered a standout performance, scoring twice – in the 47th and 90+4th minutes – to cement Arsenal’s dominance. Tottenham’s lone goal came from Randal Kolo Muani, his first in the Premier League, but it proved insufficient to alter the course of the match.

The win lifts Arsenal to the top of the Premier League table with 61 points, establishing a five-point lead over Manchester City, who have 56 points. Arsenal will face Manchester City in April. City played an earlier match on Wednesday, drawing 2-2 with Wolverhampton.

Tottenham, under fresh coach Igor Tudor, struggled with numerous injuries throughout the match. The defeat leaves them 16th in the league, just four points above the relegation zone, currently occupied by West Ham.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, Liverpool defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0, thanks to a late goal from Alexis Mac Allister. Mac Allister initially had a goal disallowed for a handball, but a subsequent VAR review confirmed a legitimate goal after ruling out an offside on Virgil van Dijk. The win moves Liverpool to 45 points, level with Chelsea and Manchester United.

Nottingham Forest remains two points above West Ham in the relegation battle. The match followed a 3-0 victory for Liverpool against Fenerbahçe in the Europa League playoff, marking the debut of new coach Vitor Pereira.
