A Tesla Supercharger station in Vansbro, Sweden, was vandalized with frozen charging cables and anti-Elon Musk imagery, local media reported February 19, 2026. The incident occurred during peak winter travel weeks, impacting access to charging infrastructure for holiday travelers.
Images circulating in local media show charging cables deliberately frozen, apparently by pouring water over them, rendering them unusable. A banner displayed at the site read “Go home Elon,” accompanied by a graphic depicting a controversial gesture made by Musk. Local resident Stefan Jakobsson, who discovered the vandalism, described the imagery as “nicely drawn” but “a bit unnecessary,” adding, “They don’t have to do vandalism because they’re angry at Elon Musk.”
The Vansbro Supercharger is a critical charging point for electric vehicle owners traveling to popular winter sports destinations like Sälen. Jakobsson noted that the station experienced heavy traffic last weekend, with approximately 50 Teslas and other electric vehicles waiting to charge. Tesla Superchargers in Sweden are open to all electric vehicle brands with CCS compatibility.
The vandalism coincides with an ongoing labor dispute between Tesla and the Swedish union IF Metall, which has been striking for over two years in pursuit of collective bargaining agreements. According to reports, sympathy strikes from other unions have previously disrupted power supply to some Tesla stations, prompting the company to install a generator at the Vansbro location. However, the generator was reportedly not functioning on the morning of the vandalism, though a connection to the protest remains unconfirmed.
Tesla operates several Supercharger locations throughout Sweden, including stations in Malmö, Karlshamn and Gothenburg. The Malmö station is located at 10 Topplocksgatan, although the Gothenburg station is at Köpcentrum 421, Lona Knapes gata. Tesla’s Roadside Assistance in Sweden can be reached at 0775 88 80 36.
