Carlos Alcaraz secured his first title of 2026 and the 26th of his career with a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Arthur Fils in the Qatar ExxonMobil Open final in Doha on Saturday, February 21st. The match, lasting a mere 50 minutes, marked the shortest completed final of Alcaraz’s professional career.
The 22-year-old Spaniard, the tournament’s top seed, demonstrated ruthless efficiency, converting five of seven break points against the unseeded Frenchman. Alcaraz broke Fils’ serve in the opening game and swiftly took control, winning the first set in 28 minutes. He continued his onslaught in the second set, securing a double break to lead 3-0, a point at which Fils visibly expressed his frustration by smashing his racquet.
Despite Fils briefly finding his rhythm to win a game and elicit cheers from the crowd, Alcaraz maintained his overwhelming dominance, closing out the second set in 24 minutes. The Spaniard finished the match with 18 winners compared to Fils’ three, and crucially, did not face a single break point on his own serve.
The victory extends Alcaraz’s unbeaten streak to 12 matches in 2026, following his historic Australian Open triumph last month where he became the youngest man to complete the Career Grand Slam. “I came this year hungry for more,” Alcaraz said after the match. “It’s been a really strong start to the year. It wasn’t easy, I had to be strong mentally with my team. I’m just playing great tennis and I’m really happy about this week. This trophy means a lot to me.”
Fils, who was playing in his first ATP final, acknowledged Alcaraz’s performance with a gracious concession. “You played very good, you’re a hell of a champion, it’s a joke,” Fils said to Alcaraz. “Congrats to your team and to you, you did an unbelievable job.” Fils had been sidelined for approximately eight months in the previous year due to a back injury.
The 50-minute final surpassed last year’s quickest final, when Casper Ruud defeated Ugo Humbert 6-2, 6-3 in 68 minutes at the Nordic Open in Stockholm.
