Chicago State Women’s Tennis Shut Out by SIUE, Faces Indiana Next

The Chicago State University men’s tennis team suffered a 7-0 defeat at the hands of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) on Sunday in Chicago, Illinois. The loss brings the Cougars’ record to 1-6 on the season.

SIUE secured the doubles point with wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Jessica Li and Elena Palioura defeated Nikita Liyanage and Mackenzie King 6-0, while Margaux Guibal Britt and Stefaniya Anikina topped Camila Sanchez and Karolina Skowronska 6-1. The No. 3 doubles match between Nadjema Morille and Danina Hughes of Chicago State and Cydney Rogers and Aliya Rector of SIUE was unfinished, with SIUE leading 5-3.

In singles play, SIUE completed the shutout. Chloe Koons defeated Danina Hughes 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. Elena Palioura won against Camila Sanchez 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Jessica Li defeated Mackenzie King 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles, and Stefaniya Anikina bested Nikita Liyanage 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. Margaux Guibal Britt secured a 6-3, 6-7(8), 10-6 victory over Karolina Skowronska at No. 1 singles. The match at No. 6 singles between Emerson Metzger of SIUE and Nadjema Morille of Chicago State was left unfinished, with Metzger leading 1-0.

Chicago State will next face Indiana University on Friday, February 27, at XS Tennis Village in Chicago, Illinois.
