Genesis Invitational 2026: Biggest Names to Miss the Cut at Riviera

by Alex Carter - Sports Editor

Scottie Scheffler extended his streak of consecutive made cuts on the PGA Tour to 68 at the Genesis Invitational, but barely. The world’s top-ranked golfer sank a 7-foot putt on the 18th hole at Riviera Country Club on Friday to secure his place in the weekend rounds, finishing at even par and making the cut on the number.

The Genesis Invitational, the second Signature Event of the season, featured a cut after the second round, limiting the field to the top 50 players and ties from the 72-man competition. While Scheffler managed to survive, several prominent golfers were not as fortunate.

Justin Rose, fresh off a victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, missed the cut for the second consecutive year at the Genesis Invitational. Rose finished three-over par for the tournament after rounds of 74 and 71.

Jason Day also failed to make the cut, finishing five shots short of the qualifying score. Day had begun the year with a strong showing at The American Express, tying for second place, but struggled at Riviera with rounds of 73 and 74.

Chris Gotterup, who had enjoyed a remarkable start to the year with two PGA Tour wins at the Sony Open in Hawaii and the WM Phoenix Open, also saw his streak end. He missed the cut by three strokes after a second-round 74 followed his opening 71.

US Open champion J.J. Spaun missed the cut by four strokes. A poor start to the first round, where he was four-over through his opening nine holes, proved too difficult to overcome despite a 72 in the second round.

Russell Henley, who had a successful run in Signature Events in 2025, including a win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, also fell short, missing the cut by two strokes. Despite a three-under 68 in his second round, his five-over opening round proved detrimental.

Keegan Bradley, the 2025 US Ryder Cup captain, continued a slow start to the season, missing the cut for the second time this year. He finished three-over par after rounds of 76 and 69.

Sam Burns, who had been in contention at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, also failed to advance. A poor back nine in his second round, with four bogeys, left him one-over par and heading home early.

Maverick McNealy, who had not missed a cut this season prior to the Genesis Invitational, came within one stroke of making the weekend rounds. He finished at one-over par after carding a 74 in his second round following an initial 69.

Marco Penge and Jacob Bridgeman currently lead the tournament at 12-under par, with Rory McIlroy one stroke behind at 11-under par.
