Marshfield High School’s girls basketball team secured a 59-54 overtime victory against Wausau West Thursday night, concluding the regular season for both Wisconsin Valley Conference teams. The win marked Marshfield’s fifth in their last six games, finishing their season with a 10-14 overall record and a 6-4 conference standing, tying them for second place with Wisconsin Rapids and D.C. Everest.
The game, played at Wausau West High School, was closely contested, ending in a 48-48 tie at the end of regulation. Marshfield then outscored Wausau West 11-6 in the four-minute overtime period to claim the win.
Kennedy Kolstad led Marshfield in scoring with 15 points, while Natalie DeLany contributed 14 points, including three successful three-pointers. Lily Adler added eight points and a significant 14 rebounds for the Tigers.
For Wausau West, Olivia Colwell was the top scorer with 14 points, and Stella Olson recorded 13 points along with 10 rebounds. Wausau West concluded their season with a 6-18 overall record and a 1-9 conference record.
Marshfield will now host Merrill in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Marshfield’s victory also extended their winning streak at home to eight consecutive games, according to MaxPreps, which ranks the Tigers 28th in Wisconsin basketball, significantly higher than Wausau West’s ranking of 208th.
