Singer Yebba is releasing her sophomore album, Jean, on March 6 via RCA, marking a return to her own music after a period of featured collaborations. The announcement comes with the release of the lead single, “Yellow Eyes.”
Yebba, born Abigail Elizabeth Smith on January 16, 1995, in West Memphis, Arkansas, first gained recognition through her YouTube channel and a backing vocal performance on Chance the Rapper’s 2016 Saturday Night Live performance of “Same Drugs.” She followed that with her debut single, “Evergreen,” in 2017.
In 2021, Yebba released her debut album, Dawn, before contributing vocals to tracks by Drake and Tyler, the Creator. She is featured on Drake’s 2021 album Certified Lover Boy, specifically on the song “Yebba’s Heartbreak,” and on Tyler, the Creator’s 2025 album Don’t Tap The Glass, on the track “I’ll Grab Care of You.”
“I wanted to experience singing in a different way than I had before,” Yebba said of “Yellow Eyes,” which opens with intricate guitar function and percussive claps. The song features delicate guitar plucks and a close, yet resilient vocal performance.
Yebba won a Grammy Award in 2019 for Best Traditional R&B Performance for her contribution to PJ Morton’s cover of “How Deep Is Your Love.” She has also collaborated with artists including PJ Morton, Sam Smith, Mark Ronson, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran, A$AP Rocky, and Tyler, the Creator.
Jean is named for Yebba’s late grandmother.
