The Golf Club of California in Fallbrook hosted the first stage of the Gira De Golf (Mexico Open Qualifier) tournament from June 16th to 20th, 2025. The event is one of several competitive tournaments the club has hosted, alongside the ASHER Tour, which took place from March 25th to 27th, 2025.
The 18-hole, par-72 course, spanning 6,925 yards, is designed to integrate the natural landscape of Southern California. According to the club’s website, the course incorporates ancient oaks, sycamores, and eucalyptus trees, alongside red-top grasses lining the fairways and greens. A recent feature in Golf Digest magazine further highlights the course’s appeal.
The Golf Club of California is currently accepting new members, offering a valued membership in the San Diego area with low initiation fees and reasonable monthly dues. The club also provides a practice center, dining facilities, and an event center.
Don Byrd, a golf coach and instructor with over 35 years of experience, leads the club’s instruction program. He is a graduate of Phillips Exeter Academy and the College of William and Mary.
A nearby golf course, Welk Resort San Diego (Oaks Course) in Escondido, features a par-3 “Oaks Course” heavily populated with oak trees that impact play, requiring creative shots to navigate overhanging branches. The course includes a drainage ditch that players must hit over on several holes.
A eucalyptus tree at a nearby golf course was noted in a Reddit post from February 6, 2020, showing two sides of the same tree, potentially impacting tee shots for players who slice the ball. A separate report from November 11, 2025, notes that a high-pressure Southern California Gas Company line runs directly beneath eucalyptus trees in Montecito.
