Testing at Sydney Motorsport Park was suspended Friday after kangaroos entered the track, causing a red flag with just over an hour remaining in the session. The incident marks the second disruption during the day, following an earlier stoppage to inspect newly laid asphalt at Turn 8.
Several kangaroos were observed on the circuit between Turns 3 and 5, prompting officials to halt the session. Another kangaroo was spotted near a flag marshal’s post on the inside of Turn 3.
At the time of the suspension, Cameron Waters of Tickford Racing held the fastest lap time of 1:28.5563s, a mere 0.0797s ahead of teammate Thomas Randle. Anton De Pasquale, driving for Team 18, was third fastest, followed by Aaron Cameron of Blanchard Racing Team and Jayden Ojeda of PremiAir Racing.
The disruption comes less than a week after a similar incident at the Bathurst 12 Hour race, where Christopher Mies collided with a kangaroo during the opening stages of the event.
The Supercars Championship is set to begin its 2026 season with a race tonight.
