Miami, FL – Music producers Jack Hernandez, known as Ocean Vibes, and Dick Alfredo Caballero Rodriguez, operating as Alfr3d Beats, have withdrawn a copyright infringement lawsuit against Colombian reggaeton star Karol G and Universal Music Group. The producers publicly apologized for filing the suit, according to court documents accessed by EFE.
The lawsuit, originally filed in March 2025, alleged that Karol G and her co-writers plagiarized key elements of their 2022 song “Gatúbela,” from her album Mañana Será Bonito, from their earlier track “Punto G,” released less than two months prior. The producers claimed a substantial similarity in the synthesizer riff and vocal melody of the chorus between the two songs, with an independent musicologist reportedly concluding the similarities were “extremely similar” and unlikely to have occurred by chance, according to previous reports.
However, the producers now acknowledge that evidence demonstrates Karol G’s producer, DJ Maff, created and recorded the rhythm for “Gatúbela” two weeks before “Punto G” was published. This revelation led to their voluntary dismissal of the case and subsequent public apology, which will be released in both English and Spanish on YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
“Gatúbela” appeared on Mañana Será Bonito, an album that achieved significant commercial and critical success, becoming the first Spanish-language album by a female artist to reach number one on the Billboard 200 chart. The album also won Album of the Year at the Latin Grammy Awards, and its singles, including “Gatúbela,” garnered widespread popularity and extensive streaming numbers.
The lawsuit had named Karol G (legally Carolina Giraldo Navarro), Universal Music Group, DJ Maff (Marvin Hawkins Rodriguez), rapper Maldy, and other collaborators as defendants. The case was filed in Miami federal court, but has now been closed with prejudice following the producers’ withdrawal and apology.
