The second season of the Apple TV+ mystery thriller The Last Thing He Told Me is set to premiere on February 20, 2026, nearly three years after the initial release of the seven-episode series.
Based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Laura Dave, the show follows Hannah Hall, portrayed by Jennifer Garner, as she navigates the sudden disappearance of her husband, Owen (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau), and simultaneously builds a relationship with her stepdaughter, Bailey (Angourie Rice). The series initially debuted on April 14, 2023.
Filming locations for The Last Thing He Told Me included Los Angeles, California, as well as the San Francisco Bay Area, specifically Sausalito. The show notably features a houseboat in Sausalito where Hannah and Owen reside. Garner was observed filming scenes in San Francisco during the summer preceding the show’s premiere. The production too extended to Austin, Texas, coinciding with events surrounding the wedding of Garner’s former spouse, Ben Affleck.
The cast also includes Aisha Tyler, Augusto Aguilera, Geoff Stults, and John Harlan Kim. The series is executive produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter, alongside Jennifer Garner and Josh Singer, who also developed the show with Laura Dave. Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans composed the music.
The initial announcement of Julia Roberts in a lead role predated Garner’s casting in November 2021. Garner subsequently took on the starring role and also became a producer. Angourie Rice joined the cast in April 2022, followed by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Aisha Tyler, Geoff Stults, John Harlan Kim, and Augusto Aguilera in May of the same year.
A review published shortly after the premiere of the first episode by RogerEbert.com criticized the series, stating it “falls into a strange valley in between reality and what this show should be,” and lamented the “wasted” talent of the performers. The show is produced by Parnes Bakery Inc. And Hello Sunshine, in association with 20th Television.
