Precision Rifle Match Set for Cheyenne, Wyoming Amid Winter Weather Concerns
Cheyenne, Wyoming – A precision rifle match is scheduled to take place this Saturday, May 24th, at the Otto Road Shooting Range, located at 1532 Otto Rd, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001. Organizers are preparing for potentially challenging weather conditions, warning participants to anticipate a wide range of temperatures, and wind.
The event, dubbed the Cheyenne Precision Rifle Hoedown, will follow a PRS (Precision Rifle Series) style format, incorporating positional shooting and prone/modified positions. Targets will be engaged at distances ranging from 300 to 1,030 yards, with an average engagement distance of 500-600 yards. Participants are advised to bring between 84 and 94 rounds of ammunition, with additional rounds recommended for re-shooting stages or velocity adjustments.
The Otto Road Shooting Range, a private, members-only facility located eight miles west of Cheyenne, is known for its long-range capabilities, offering steel targets out to 1,020 yards. The range emphasizes long-range precision shooting and is a popular venue for PRS-style practice. According to the range’s website, a long-range operate day was held on February 2, 2026, to maintain the facility.
Specific rules for the match include a maximum muzzle velocity of 3200 fps and a caliber restriction of .30 caliber or less. Squads 6, 7, and 8 have been designated as suppressed-only. The match fee is $50 cash, payable at the range. A safety brief is scheduled to begin at 8:00 AM, and participants are expected to assist with squad management to expedite the event.

Membership fees are currently $150 for the first year, $115 for annual renewal if paid on time, and $125 if paid within a 10-day grace period. Late renewals exceeding six months are subject to a $150 fee and a restart of membership. The range also provides gun transfer services through Nana’s and Papa’s Gun Shop, with a discount for range members.
