Cheongyang County Promotes 2026 Health & Cancer Screenings

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

The Chungyang County Health Center is urging residents to participate in the 2026 national health check-up and cancer screening programs, citing a significant increase in early disease detection in recent years.

According to data released by the county’s health center, the number of health check-ups completed has risen steadily over the past three years: 22,763 in 2023, 24,175 in 2024, and 27,595 in 2025. Last year’s figures represent a substantial 14.1% increase – or 3,420 more check-ups – compared to the previous year, marking the highest number on record.

The impact of these screenings is already evident. In 2025, early detection through the program identified five cases of stomach cancer, three cases of esophageal cancer, three cases of colon cancer, and one case of pancreatic cancer. 90 cases of breast disease, 73 cases of pulmonary disease, and 8 cases of liver disease were identified, bringing the total number of abnormal findings to 405, all of which were promptly referred for treatment.

The Chungyang County Health Center provides a range of screening programs, offering residents access to quality medical services without needing to travel outside the county. Currently, screenings are available for five major cancers – stomach, colon, liver, breast, and cervical cancer – with the exception of lung cancer.

A key benefit for Chungyang residents aged 65 and over who are eligible for national health screenings is free access to a comprehensive blood test with 56 parameters, as well as a low-dose CT scan for lung screening. This initiative is designed to address the needs of the county’s aging population.

The health center also provides follow-up counseling and referrals to specialist medical institutions for individuals with abnormal screening results. For those subsequently diagnosed with cancer, information about financial assistance programs is also provided to alleviate treatment costs.

For 2026, national health screenings are available to adults aged 20 and over born in even-numbered years. Residents are advised to bring identification to a designated medical institution or the health center. Fasting is required from 8 PM the night before the screening to ensure accurate results.
