Google has unveiled the Pixel 10a, the latest addition to its A-series smartphone lineup, aiming to deliver a balance of features and affordability. The device, announced on Wednesday, features a refined design and leverages Google’s artificial intelligence capabilities, all at a starting price of $499.
The Pixel 10a distinguishes itself with a completely flat back, a design choice intended to improve portability and usability. The camera bar is now seamlessly integrated into the rear casing, eliminating the camera bump found in previous models. Google emphasized a commitment to sustainability in the phone’s construction, utilizing a 100% recycled aluminum frame and a back cover composed of 81% recycled plastic. The phone will be available in Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian color options.
The 6.3-inch Actua display boasts an 11% increase in brightness compared to the Pixel 9a, enhancing visibility in direct sunlight. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, offering improved scratch and drop resistance. It features a resolution of 1.080 x 2.424 pixels and a variable refresh rate ranging from 60Hz to 120Hz.
While Google’s flagship Pixel 10 series utilizes the Tensor G3 chip, the Pixel 10a incorporates the Tensor G4 processor, the same chip found in last year’s Pixel 9a. The device also includes the Titan M2 security chip and provides access to Gemini-powered AI features, including Gemini Live for conversational assistance, Nano Banana for image editing, and a “Search with a circle” function.
The Pixel 10a features a dual-camera system, comprising a 48MP main lens and a 13MP ultrawide lens. Google claims this camera setup delivers the best camera experience available on a phone under $500. The cameras support Super Res Zoom up to 8x magnification. A 13MP front-facing camera is included for selfies.
Powering the Pixel 10a is a 5,100mAh battery, providing over 30 hours of typical apply and up to 120 hours with Extreme Battery Saver enabled. The phone supports 45W fast charging with a compatible charger and 10W wireless charging via the Qi standard.
Google explained that the decision to maintain the Tensor G4 processor and other specifications was a deliberate effort to maintain a competitive price point. The Pixel 10a will be available with 8GB of RAM and either 128GB or 256GB of storage. It is priced at 549 euros and will be available for purchase starting March 5th, with pre-orders beginning Wednesday.
The Pixel 10a will receive seven years of operating system, security, and Pixel Drops updates. Notably, the device will also include “SOS by Satellite” functionality – a first for the A-series – enabling communication with emergency services in areas without Wi-Fi or cellular coverage. Google also announced new Raspberry and Fog color options for the Pixel Buds 2a, available starting the same date.
