Argentina Sunflower Crop to Ease Europe Seed Deficit | Sofia/Buenos Aires Update

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Bulgaria is poised to import approximately 400,000 tons of sunflower seeds from Argentina as European markets grapple with supply deficits, according to UkrAgroConsult.

The anticipated shipments arrive as Argentina strengthens its position as a key alternative supplier of sunflower seeds, particularly in light of disruptions elsewhere. Mundus Agri reports that Argentina is now the top alternative source for sunflower seeds.

The move by Bulgaria reflects a broader trend of seeking alternative sources for sunflower seeds, a critical component in the production of sunflower oil. Latin America and the Caribbean’s crude sunflower and safflower oil market is projected to reach 2 million tons and $2 billion by 2035, according to IndexBox, indicating a growing regional role in global supply.

Experts note that Argentina’s increasing prominence in the global sunflower oil market is not merely a response to immediate shortages, but a sign of a sustained strengthening of its position. АПК-Інформ reports that Argentina continues to solidify its role in the global sunflower oil market.

The Bulgarian import agreement does not specify a timeline for delivery, and further details regarding pricing and logistical arrangements remain undisclosed.
