A significant reunion is set for Genoa City this April as Shemar Moore and Vivica A. Fox will return to The Young and the Restless, CBS announced Tuesday. Moore will reprise his role as Malcolm Winters, and Fox will once again portray Dr. Stephanie Simmons, marking her first appearance on the soap opera in nearly three decades.
The actors began filming their multi-episode arc on February 17, with the network teasing that their return will have “shocking and lasting implications” for the show’s residents. Moore first joined The Young and the Restless in 1994 as Malcolm Winters, the younger brother of Neil Winters (the late Kristoff St. John). He quickly became a popular figure on the show, remaining in the role until 2005. He has since made several guest appearances, including a visit in 2023 to commemorate the show’s 50th anniversary.
During his initial run, Moore garnered eight NAACP Image Awards and a Daytime Emmy Award in 2000 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. His portrayal of Malcolm established him as a prominent figure in daytime television before transitioning to primetime roles in series like Criminal Minds and S.W.A.T, the latter of which he as well executive produces. He currently stars in the spinoff series, S.W.A.T. Exiles.
Fox’s character, Dr. Stephanie Simmons, appeared on The Young and the Restless from 1994 to 1995. Her storyline involved a brief romantic connection with Malcolm, initiated by his sister-in-law, Olivia. The relationship concluded when Stephanie departed Genoa City to pursue career opportunities.
Both actors have enjoyed successful careers outside of daytime television. Fox has appeared in numerous films, including Independence Day, Soul Food, Why Do Fools Fall in Love, and Kill Bill. Malcolm Winters’ storyline has evolved significantly since Fox’s departure. In 2006, it was revealed that he is the biological father of Lily Winters (Christel Khalil), a revelation that altered the family’s dynamics.
The Young and the Restless, currently in its 53rd season, airs weekdays at 12:30 PM ET on CBS and is available for streaming on Paramount+.
