Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic – The Director Executive of the National Health Service (SNS), Dr. Julio Landrón, announced the immediate suspension and cancellation of a tender for nutrition services on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, following a series of complaints and the identification of technical deficiencies in the bidding process. The decision aims to ensure transparency, legality, and efficient use of public funds, according to a statement released by the SNS.
Dr. Landrón clarified that the process, originally initiated in December 2025 by the previous Purchasing and Contracting Committee, was continued by the current administration. However, a subsequent technical evaluation revealed critical observations within the initial technical specifications, administrative deficiencies that compromised the suitability of the tender, and the need to update selection criteria to align with current regulations.
The suspension extends beyond the nutrition services contract. Dr. Landrón has instructed a complete halt to all ongoing bidding processes within the SNS, including those related to sensitive areas such as dialysis services. These processes will undergo a joint audit with the General Directorate of Public Procurement (DGCP), as reported by proceso.com.do and presidencia.gob.do. The goal is to ensure strict adherence to Law 340-06, promoting free competition and fairness without disrupting patient care.
“In our management, ethics and values will prevail. We will not allow processes that raise doubts about the correct administration of state resources,” Dr. Landrón emphasized, according to noticiassin.com.
The SNS also announced plans to conduct new nutrition service tenders directly at public hospitals, tailored to the specific needs of each healthcare center. These new processes will be carried out with the direct accompaniment and supervision of the DGCP, aiming for more efficient, transparent, and appropriate procedures for the Public Network, as detailed in a press release from the presidency.
The move comes as the SNS seeks to strengthen the public healthcare network and prioritize the quality of service to patients, while maintaining integrity in administrative management. The DGCP’s involvement signals a commitment to rigorous oversight of public procurement processes.
