A motorcyclist died on February 16, 2026, after colliding with a car door that opened into traffic on the Honda-Guaduas highway in Cundinamarca, Colombia, and subsequently being struck by a tractor-trailer. The victim has been identified as a professor, Armando, according to reports.

The incident occurred when the driver of a car opened their door directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist. The impact caused the motorcyclist to fall into the path of a passing tractor-trailer, resulting in fatal injuries. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the car door opening and the subsequent collision.

The accident took place on a stretch of road between Guaduas and Honda, Tolima, near the Bicentenario toll booth, which recently experienced a significant fire. The fire at the toll booth, reported on February 16, 2026, potentially complicated emergency response to the accident site, though the extent of any impact is currently unconfirmed.

Recent news from the region also includes the capture of suspects in the murder of Luis Alfonso Valencia, the owner of the popular arepa restaurant “El Carriel” in Guaduas. Alias Negro Maicol and alias Johan were apprehended in Tolima, three months after Valencia and his caretaker were fatally shot. Authorities also arrested an employee of Valencia’s who allegedly provided information to the perpetrators. Valencia was killed on his property in Guaduas.

Further complicating traffic in the area, a section of the Ruta del Sol highway remains closed due to a landslide between Guaduas and Puerto Salgar. Alternate routes are in place while crews perform to clear the debris and repair the roadway.
