Imran Khan: Health Updates, Visa Requests & Ongoing Protests

The sons of former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan have applied for visas to visit him in Adiala Jail, according to multiple reports. The application comes amid concerns over Khan’s health and allegations of mistreatment while in custody.

Khan underwent an eye examination at the jail on Monday, a process his party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has described as “malicious.” PTI officials have questioned the exclusion of independent medical professionals from the examination, raising concerns about the impartiality of the assessment. According to a medical board report, Khan currently has 6/24 partial vision in his right eye unaided and 6/9 in his left.

Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar attempted to allay concerns regarding Khan’s vision, stating, “There’s nothing to worry about,” according to Dawn. But, the PTI maintains that Khan’s life is at risk and has cited potential threats related to his confinement.

The opposition in Pakistan is scheduled to meet today to discuss the current political situation, including Khan’s detention and the concerns raised by his party. The PTI recently concluded a sit-in protest at the K-P House, but continues its demonstrations at Parliament House.

Recent medical evaluations have indicated some improvement in Khan’s right eye vision. However, questions persist regarding the circumstances surrounding a “secret” medical checkup conducted at Adiala Jail, prompting a letter from lawyer Khosa to the Chief Justice of Pakistan seeking clarification.

The PTI has alleged that Khan is being moved from Adiala Jail, further fueling concerns about his safety and well-being. The party has not provided details regarding the alleged relocation, but insists that Khan’s life is in danger.
