Rainbow Six Siege players will soon be able to deploy as Solid Snake, the iconic protagonist of the Metal Gear Solid franchise, starting March 3rd as part of the game’s “Operation Silent Hunt” season. The collaboration, first teased last month with a glimpse of Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell engaging in a Codec call, brings the stealth action hero to Ubisoft’s tactical shooter with voice acting provided once again by David Hayter.
However, the integration of Metal Gear Solid elements wasn’t limited to just a modern playable Operator. According to Rainbow Six Siege’s new creative director, Josh Mills, the development team also considered adding the series’ signature cardboard box as a deployable item for Operators to apply for concealment. The idea was ultimately rejected due to the intimate knowledge Siege players possess of the game’s maps.
“Our players already grasp every inch of every map, and among the team we have a saying, Operator’s eyes don’t lie,” Mills told IGN. “So, if there were suddenly a box in the corner of a room on any given map our players would promptly shoot that box.”
The “Operation Silent Hunt” season will also include a Gray Fox skin for Jackal and a Meryl skin for Ash, alongside a new limited-time 4v4 infiltration mode called “Redacted.” This mode will feature Snake and Zero leading a team of Operators to recover stolen data. Mills also highlighted a new mission for the “Dual Front” game mode, titled “Last Assignment,” designed as a direct homage to longtime fans of the Metal Gear Solid series.
This crossover marks a continuing trend of collaborations for Rainbow Six Siege, which has previously featured content from Attack on Titan and The Boys. Sam Fisher, another stealth icon, was integrated into the game in 2020 as the Specialist Zero Operator. The change in creative leadership, with Joshua Mills recently taking over from Alexander Karpazis, appears to be continuing a pattern of embracing external properties within the core Rainbow Six Siege experience.
