The final Nashua firefighter injured during a natural gas explosion and subsequent fire was released from the hospital on Sunday, receiving a “hero’s sendoff” from colleagues and supporters, according to local reports.

The incident, which began with a reported gas leak, proved “a tough situation for everyone involved,” stated Cy Hebert, president of Nashua IAFF Local 789. Hebert also expressed pride in the response of the fire crews, noting that their training was instrumental in mitigating the situation.

Hebert emphasized the importance of supporting firefighters and their families during challenging times, saying, “As firefighters we dedicate our lives to taking care of others so when it comes to a moment like this, when we take care of our own and their families, there’s nothing we take more seriously.”

IAFF Local 789 represents firefighters across six stations in Nashua: Amherst Street Station 1, the Fire Alarm Dispatch Center, Lake Street Station 2, Spit Brook Road Station 3, East Hollis Street Station 4, Pine Hill Road Station 5, and Conant Road Station 6.
