Yahoo! JAPAN ceased services in the European Economic Area (EEA) and the United Kingdom on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, citing difficulties in maintaining a continuous service environment in those regions.

The company announced the service withdrawal, but indicated that access to Yahoo! JAPAN services would remain available from within Japan. A limited set of functions within Yahoo! JAPAN Mail will continue to be accessible, though details are currently available only in Japanese.

The decision arrives as First Quantum Minerals announced a $1.35 billion senior notes offering, and Alvotech secured a settlement agreement for its biosimilar to Eylea in global markets, and received a favorable ruling from the UK High Court regarding its AVT06 biosimilar. Aegon as well announced the sale of approximately 12.5 million shares in a.s.r. Via an accelerated placing.

Whereas Yahoo! JAPAN did not specify the precise challenges prompting the withdrawal, the move follows increasing regulatory complexity within the EEA and the UK following Brexit. The company’s statement offered an apology for any inconvenience caused by the change.
