Ohio Man Wanted in Moore County Double Homicide | Vass, NC

A 25-year-old Ohio man is in custody following a double homicide in Moore County, North Carolina, on Saturday morning. Caleb Hayden Fosnaugh was arrested in Coshocton, Ohio, after fleeing the scene of a shooting on Daphne Lane in Vass, according to the Moore County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a shooting report at approximately 7:45 a.m. And discovered a 28-year-old and a 21-year-old deceased inside the residence. Authorities are withholding the identities of the victims pending notification of next of kin.

Fosnaugh left the scene before law enforcement arrived and warrants were issued for his arrest on charges of breaking and entering and two counts of murder. Investigators believed he was heading back to his hometown in Ohio, prompting a multi-agency search. The suspect fled the Woodlake community neighborhood around 8 a.m., according to reports.

The arrest was the result of coordinated efforts between the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and authorities in Ohio, including the Coshocton County Sheriff’s Office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “We are grateful for the swift coordination and assistance from our law enforcement partners in bringing this individual into custody,” Moore County Sheriff Ronnie Fields said in a statement. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol and the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation also assisted in the investigation.

Sheriff Fields described the incident as “a tragic and senseless loss of life,” adding, “Our hearts go out to the families of the victims during this demanding time.”

Authorities have stated that the incident appears to be isolated and that all involved parties were known to each other, indicating no ongoing threat to the Woodlake community. Detectives are continuing to actively investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
