Mohamed Salah registered his 369th and 370th goal contributions for Liverpool on Saturday, as the team secured a 3-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup. The Egyptian forward’s performance came as Liverpool progressed to the fifth round of the competition, with Dominik Szoboszlai too scoring and receiving high praise from Salah.

Following the match, Salah emphasized Szoboszlai’s importance to Liverpool’s potential success in the FA Cup. “I think This proves going to depend on his [Szoboszlai’s] performance. We rely on him so much,” Salah said, adding, “This season he is one of the best players in the world. I wish he can carry on like this. It is great to win trophies. Hopefully People can do it again.”

Szoboszlai, who returned to the starting lineup after a period of suspension, scored Liverpool’s second goal with a powerful strike in the 56th minute, following a first-time assist from Salah. The goal marked Szoboszlai’s tenth of the season across all competitions, equaling his previous best tally achieved while playing for RB Leipzig. He has nine goals and six assists in three competitions this season.

The Hungarian midfielder acknowledged the significance of the win, stating, “It was definitely pressure on the penalty. It is a very important win for us. It gives us confidence for the upcoming matches.” Szoboszlai also downplayed comparisons to Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, stating, “I’m not playing a Steven Gerrard season. Whereas he was a legend at the club, I’m trying to write my own story. I’m trying to do my best in every game. Hopefully we can continue until the end.”

Curtis Jones opened the scoring for Liverpool in the first half, while Salah added a late penalty to seal the victory. The win comes despite a season that has fallen short of expectations for the club, according to Jones, who stated, “I think we have clicked for a while… You can’t go into every game and expect to win. I think the team has gelled and off the pitch there is a good bond as well.”

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has recently been dealing with an injury crisis, having deployed Szoboszlai as a makeshift right-back in recent weeks due to injuries to Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley. Szoboszlai returned to his more natural midfield position against Brighton.
