Parts of the Netherlands may notice snow on Friday, February 13, 2026, as a colder air mass moves in from the north. The eastern and northeastern regions are most likely to experience (wet) snow, with a possibility of a thin layer of snow forming on grassy surfaces.
According to the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI), the temperature in the northeast will hover around freezing. Maximum temperatures will range from 1°C in the northeast to 7°C in the south. The wind will come from the northeast and is expected to be moderate, becoming strong near the coast later in the day.
Although the snowfall is not expected to be substantial, the KNMI warns of potentially slippery conditions in the northeast. The northern coastal areas will experience increasing winds, reaching force 5 or 6 on the Beaufort scale.
Further south, the weather will be predominantly cloudy with occasional rain. The Waddeneilanden (Wadden Islands) may see localized mist. Tonight, light rain or drizzle is expected, particularly in the northern half of the country, with occasional wet snow in the north. Minimum temperatures will range from 0°C in the northeast to 5°C in the south.
The colder weather arrives as many prepare for carnival celebrations. Temperatures are expected to drop further over the weekend, with a high chance of snow on Sunday, potentially accumulating several centimeters. Saturday will be dry with sunshine, but nighttime temperatures could fall to -5°C.
Looking ahead to Friday evening, conditions will be largely dry with moderate winds from the northeast, increasing to strong winds near the coast and over the IJsselmeer lake. Overnight, conditions will remain dry, although a chance of light snow flurries exists in South Limburg. The minimum temperature is forecast to be around -1°C.
Saturday morning will start cloudy, with a continued chance of snow flurries in South Limburg. Later in the day, sunshine is expected to break through in the north, west, and central regions. The northern wind will be moderate, remaining strong along the coast and over the IJsselmeer, with possible force 6 winds along the southwest coast.
