Thomas Frank & Roberto De Zerbi Sacked: Man Utd Manager Race Heats Up

Tottenham Hotspur have sacked head coach Thomas Frank, the club confirmed on Wednesday, February 11, 2026. The dismissal comes after less than eight months in charge for the Danish manager, who replaced Ange Postecoglou in June 2025.

Spurs currently sit 16th in the Premier League table, five points above the relegation zone, having won just twice in their last 17 league games. The decision followed a 2-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday, during which supporters reportedly booed Frank and chanted for his removal, according to Sky Sports.

“The club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” a club statement read. The statement acknowledged the board’s initial intention to provide Frank with time to build for the future but concluded that a change was “necessary” given recent results and performances.

Frank’s departure marks the sixth permanent managerial change for Tottenham in the past seven years. He leaves having overseen a fourth-place finish in the Champions League league phase, securing progression to the round of 16, but struggled to translate that success into consistent Premier League form.

The timing of Frank’s sacking has drawn attention given his previous links to the managerial vacancy at Manchester United. He was heavily linked with the role towards the end of Erik ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford. However, United ultimately appointed a different manager, and Frank took the Tottenham job.

Adding another layer to the managerial landscape, Roberto De Zerbi, another coach previously linked with Manchester United, departed from his position at Marseille on Tuesday following a mutual agreement with the club. De Zerbi’s exit came after a 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain on Sunday. Marseille currently sit fourth in Ligue 1, a situation that may give Ineos, the owners of Manchester United, pause before considering him for the permanent managerial role, according to reports.

Michael Carrick is currently serving as interim head coach at Manchester United, having secured three wins and one draw since his return to the club. The search for a permanent successor continues.

During his time as Tottenham manager, Frank faced Manchester United twice, achieving a 2-2 draw earlier this season. However, United defeated Tottenham 2-0 last weekend, a match in which Cristian Romero was sent off for a reckless challenge on Casemiro.
