Cap City Fine Diner and Bar in Cincinnati closed its doors permanently on Saturday, September 27, 2025, less than nine months after opening, according to announcements made by the restaurant and its parent company, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.

The restaurant, located on the ground floor of the Hotel Celare in University Heights, across from the University of Cincinnati, first opened on December 22, 2024. It was the first Cincinnati location for the Columbus-based Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, which operates three other Cap City Fine Diner locations in the central Ohio area – Dublin, Gahanna and Grandview Heights.

Cameron Mitchell Restaurants invested approximately $6 million in preparing the 170-seat indoor dining space, which as well included 60 outdoor seats, according to the Cincinnati Business Courier.

The diner offered an upscale grab on classic diner fare, featuring items such as Diner Meatloaf, Seriously Considerable Chocolate Cake, and daily specials including liver and onions, chicken pot pie, and pot roast.

In a statement released on social media, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants expressed gratitude to its Cincinnati patrons. “We are so thankful for our loyal fans who have wined and dined with us in Cincinnati. Join us for a last milkshake toast before our doors close,” the company said. The statement also indicated the company would assist employees affected by the closure, but did not provide a reason for the decision.

While the company has not publicly stated the reason for the closure, speculation has arisen on social media suggesting the upscale diner concept may not have been well-suited for its location near the University of Cincinnati. No official explanation has been offered by Cameron Mitchell Restaurants.

As of September 18, 2025, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants had not responded to inquiries regarding the closure, and the company has not announced any plans for a replacement restaurant in the Cincinnati market.
