Lucca Comics & Games 2025 served as the backdrop for an interview with Valerio Schiti, the Italian artist currently working on the latest ‘Captain America’ series for Marvel Comics, alongside writer Chip Zdarsky. The series marks a significant moment in Schiti’s career, following years of work on prominent titles for the comic book giant.

Schiti’s involvement in ‘Captain America’ coincides with the return of S.H.I.E.L.D. To the narrative, an element recently highlighted in previews of ‘Captain America’ #6, as reported by Marvel.com and other news outlets. The introduction of an “All-New S.H.I.E.L.D.” is also being positioned as a launchpad for a larger storyline, dubbed “Armageddon,” according to Comic Watch and Bleeding Cool News.

During the interview, Schiti addressed the creative decisions behind the series, specifically clarifying the approach to continuity and the integration of new narrative directions within the established history of Captain America. He has also spearheaded several major Marvel events, including ‘Empyre’ – which received a GLAAD Award in 2021 – ‘X-Men: Inferno,’ and ‘A.X.E.: Judgment Day,’ alongside the mini-series ‘G.O.D.S.’ which reimagines Marvel mythology. Schiti’s architectural background, stemming from his university studies, informs his approach to visual storytelling.

The artist discussed the responsibilities and emotional weight associated with working on such an iconic character as Captain America, as well as the practical aspects of his work, including managing deadlines and balancing respect for tradition with the pursuit of a personal style.
