Champaign, Ill. – Wisconsin secured a 92-90 overtime victory against No. 8 Illinois Tuesday night at the State Farm Center, marking the Badgers’ second road win against a top-10 opponent this season and their first win in Champaign in seven years.
The Badgers overcame a 12-point deficit with eight minutes remaining in regulation, forcing the extra period after a late three-pointer from Austin Rapp. In overtime, Wisconsin opened with an 11-3 run, establishing an eight-point lead.
Illinois responded with layups from Zvonimir Ivisic and a three-pointer from Keaton Wagler, narrowing the gap to a single possession. With 14.8 seconds left in overtime and a two-point lead, Wisconsin retained possession after Nolan Winter secured a loose ball and called a timeout.
Keaton Wagler led Illinois with 34 points and seven assists, while Zvonimir Ivisic contributed 19 points and 11 rebounds. Wisconsin’s John Blackwell added 24 points, including five three-pointers, and Austin Rapp finished with 18 points off the bench.
Illinois committed 13 turnovers compared to just four by Wisconsin. The loss marks the first time this season Illinois has suffered back-to-back defeats, following a Saturday night loss to No. 10 Michigan State.
With the win, Wisconsin improves to 17-7 on the season. Illinois now stands at 20-5 and remains in second place in the Big Ten standings behind Michigan.
