New Mexico Basketball at Grand Canyon: How to Watch, Preview & More

by Emma Walker – News Editor

The New Mexico Lobos face a crucial road test Wednesday night, traveling to Grand Canyon University to take on the Lopes in a Mountain West Conference matchup. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. MST at Global Credit Union Arena and will be broadcast on FS1.

New Mexico (18-6, 9-4 MW) is seeking to halt a two-game skid following defeats to Utah State and Boise State. The Lobos’ offense is spearheaded by freshman Jake Hall, who currently averages 15.5 points per game. Hall is also on the verge of etching his name into the Mountain West record books, needing just one more three-pointer to tie San Jose State’s Rashad Muhammad’s freshman record of 75 three-pointers set during the 2013-14 season.

Grand Canyon (15-8, 8-4 MW) enters the contest after an 80-78 loss to UNLV on Saturday. The Lopes have established a strong home-court advantage, boasting an 11-2 record at Global Credit Union Arena, including a five-game winning streak in conference play.

This game represents an opportunity for New Mexico to complete a season sweep of Grand Canyon. The Lobos previously defeated the Lopes 87-64 on January 13th at The Pit, marking Grand Canyon’s largest margin of defeat this season. The overall series favors New Mexico, 5-1, with the home team prevailing in all six prior contests.

Grand Canyon is coming off a strong individual performance from guard Ray Harrison Jr., who scored 30 points in the loss to UNLV, according to reports. The Lopes will necessitate a similar offensive output to challenge the Lobos.

Following Wednesday’s game, New Mexico will have a break in its schedule before hosting Air Force on February 17th at 7 p.m. Tickets for that game are available at GoLobos.com/tickets.
