Kuwait’s Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Omar Al-Omar, has assumed the additional role of Minister of Information and Culture in an acting capacity, following the acceptance of Abdullah Buftain’s resignation. The announcement, formalized by an Amiri decree, comes amid preparations to host the Executive Office meeting of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information in Kuwait City on Wednesday.
According to the official Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), Al-Omar received Bahrain’s Minister of Information, Dr. Ramzan Al-Noaimi, upon his arrival in Kuwait on Tuesday to participate in the upcoming ministerial meeting. Al-Omar emphasized the “depth and strength” of the fraternal relations between Kuwait and Bahrain, noting the ongoing cooperation between the two nations in various fields, particularly in media and culture.
The Amiri decree accepting Buftain’s resignation was issued based on a recommendation from the Prime Minister, and references Kuwait’s constitution, a previous Amiri order from May 2024 concerning the formation of the cabinet, and decree number 73 of 2024 related to cabinet composition and its amendments.
Al-Omar highlighted the importance of developing mechanisms for joint Arab media work and enhancing coordination among Arab media institutions. He stated this would serve Arab issues and keep pace with the rapid changes in the media sector, contributing to the delivery of professional and responsible media messaging. He also affirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen Arab media cooperation and intensify coordination among Arab ministries of information.
The Minister underscored the need for unified efforts to address current challenges and present a balanced Arab media narrative that reflects shared values, preserves Arab identity, and keeps pace with the rapid technological developments in the media sector.
