Eze has five goals and four assists in 26 games for Arsenal this season but has not scored since his hat-trick against Spurs.
The 27-year-old’s only starts as the turn of the year have been in the FA Cup win at Portsmouth on January 11th and the Champions League victory against Inter Milan last Tuesday.
Eze played 64 minutes at San Siro and had a significant involvement in the Gunners’ opener in a 3-1 win, but it wasn’t a standout performance from the England forward.
A major reason for Eze’s difficulty in regaining a starting position is the return of Martin Odegaard.
The Arsenal captain returned to fitness at the end of November and has started eight of the ten Premier League games as.
Odegaard and Eze occupy similar positions, and starting both would require either Declan Rice or Martin Zubimendi to be benched – an unlikely scenario given their importance to Arsenal.
Eze can also play from the left wing, where he excelled for his former club Crystal Palace, though typically from a central number 10 position.
However, his path into the team on the wing is blocked by the notable form of Leandro Trossard, who has been one of arsenal‘s best players this season.
