Kansas Communities Awarded $45.7 Million in Federal Infrastructure Funding
TOPEKA – Governor Laura Kelly announced on January 23, 2026, that fourteen Kansas communities will receive a total of $45.7 million in federal funding through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA). The IIJA, signed into law in 2021, is designed to modernize infrastructure across the nation.
The funding will support a range of projects aimed at improving transportation safety, efficiency, and accessibility throughout Kansas. These projects include road and bridge repairs, improvements to public transportation, and enhancements to pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure.
Breakdown of Funding by Community
- Emporia: $4.2 million – Improvements to the US-50/I-35 interchange. City of Emporia Website
