A judge granted Duke’s request for a temporary restraining order. This blocks quarterback Darian Mensah from enrolling at another school until a court hearing in early February.
Duke filed a lawsuit Monday in Durham County Superior Court against Mensah. They aim to prevent his transfer and any contracts with other schools for the next season. This action followed Mensah’s reversal of his previous decision to return to the Blue Devils after leading them to the Atlantic Coast Conference title.
Judge Michael O’Foghludha signed the order Wednesday. It prevents Mensah from enrolling elsewhere, signing licensing deals, or taking actions that violate his two-year contract with Duke, which runs through 2026.
The order didn’t fully grant Duke’s request to block Mensah from entering the transfer portal. Though, he can’t take further steps to secure a deal to play for a new school.
