Seth Rollins Reflects on Controversial Hell in a Cell Match with Bray Wyatt, Wishes for Backstage Footage
Seth Rollins, while promoting WWE Unreal Season Two, recently discussed the infamous Hell in a Cell match against Bray Wyatt (Windham Rotunda) and expressed regret over the negative perception surrounding it. He believes backstage footage from that weekend would offer crucial context and understanding.
Rollins stated he wished cameras had been present “from start to finish, that week, all the way up to the end of that match, and the next day,” believing it would foster “thankfulness, but a little more empathy” from fans. He explained the intense pressure and build-up led to a situation neither he nor Wyatt were proud of.
He also defended Wyatt’s legacy, noting the match “really bothered him” and that Wyatt always wanted a chance to revisit and improve upon it. Rollins emphasized their mutual respect and desire to work together again, lamenting the lost opportunity to showcase what truly happened and then deliver a better match.
The match, while billed as a no-disqualification bout, was stopped due to excessive violence and drew meaningful criticism. Wyatt tragically passed away in August 2023. Rollins hopes footage from that time could offer a more nuanced understanding of the circumstances and the impact on both performers.
