The ideal candidate will possess a proven track record of developing and implementing performance-related processes, fostering employee engagement, and championing talent development.
The role demands a blend of strategic thinking and hands-on execution. The HR Manager will be expected to tackle complex challenges, cultivate strong relationships, develop the on-site HR team, and maintain a direct connection to the core cultivation and operations teams. The position is based at the Lansing, Michigan cultivation/production facility, with anticipated travel to Pennsylvania and Ohio sites twice per quarter.
Key Responsibilities: A Multifaceted Role
The HR Manager’s responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum of HR functions, including:
* Strategic HR planning: Collaborating with site leadership to develop and implement HR strategies aligned with overall business objectives, encompassing staffing needs, organizational design, and talent management.
* Policy Development & Implementation: Creating, recommending, and implementing HR policies and procedures, ensuring buy-in from site leadership and adherence to legal compliance.
* Compensation & Performance Management: administering compensation programs, overseeing the annual performance review process, and managing merit/salary planning activities.
* Employee Relations & Compliance: Managing leaves of absence, conducting investigations, providing guidance on complex employee relations issues, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. https://www.eeoc.gov/
* HR Operations & Administration: Overseeing routine HR programs and processes, including benefits administration, open enrollment, payroll practices, and maintaining accurate employee records.
* Team Leadership & Development: Managing, coaching, and mentoring the on-site HR team, focusing on hiring, development, career pathing, and performance management.
* Collaboration & Partnership: Working closely with Environmental Health and Safety, Compliance, and other HR peers to ensure effective employee safety programs, identify talent management opportunities, and drive continuous improvement.
* Data-Driven Insights: Monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) such as turnover rates and implementing programs to improve results.
* Continuous Improvement: Staying abreast of trends, best practices, and new technologies in human resources and talent management to enhance HR service delivery.
Qualifications & Experience: The Ideal Candidate Profile
AWH is seeking a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:
* Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Human resources, Business, or a related field is preferred, though an Associate’s degree with commensurate experience will be considered.
* Certification: A Human Resources certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, PHR) is a plus.
* Experience: A minimum of five years of progressive experience in Human Resources, with a preference for candidates with experience in a manufacturing or operations environment.
* Strategic & Tactical Acumen: The ability to operate effectively at both strategic and tactical levels, with a keen eye for detail and an understanding of how HR initiatives impact teams.
* Assessment & Judgement: Strong assessment skills, coupled with excellent judgement and outlook on HR opportunities.
* Leadership & Innovation: A passion for innovative HR solutions and process improvement,with the ability to lead and manage an HR team.
* technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (intermediate Excel skills required) and experience working with HRIS/payroll systems.
* Interaction & Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey ideas clearly and persuasively. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with employees at all levels of the organization.
Work environment & Physical Requirements
This position is primarily based within a cultivation facility environment. The role requires regular sitting and the use of hands to handle tasks. Occasional standing,walking,and reaching may be required. Regular speaking and listening are essential components of the job.
