Idaho Men’s Tennis Falls to Arizona State in Season Opener
MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Men’s Tennis team began its spring season with a challenging 7-0 defeat against Arizona State University on Sunday afternoon. Despite a hard-fought battle,particularly in doubles play,the Vandals couldn’t overcome the Sun Devils’ strong performance.
Doubles Competition: A Close Start
The match commenced with a competitive doubles round. Mikolaj Lis and Sander paradis secured a crucial victory for Idaho at the No. 2 position, winning 7-6. This win provided an early boost for the Vandals. However,the Sun Devils responded strongly. Chetanna Amadike and Gabriel Moroder fought valiantly in the No. 1 spot, narrowly losing 7-6 to Kristof Minarik and Milos Mikovic. The No. 3 doubles pairing of Noe De Col and Paul Janson ultimately fell with a score of 4-6, giving Arizona State the edge and the overall doubles point.
singles Play: Sun Devils Dominate
Entering singles play, Idaho faced an uphill battle. Despite their best efforts, the Vandals struggled to gain momentum against a formidable arizona State lineup. The Sun devils secured victories in all six singles matches, sealing the 7-0 win. Notably, this marked Mikolaj Lis’s debut in the No. 1 singles spot for the Vandals.
Looking Ahead: Road Trip Continues
Idaho will remain in Arizona, preparing to face Grand Canyon University (GCU) in Phoenix. The first match is scheduled for Wednesday, January 14th, at 10:30 p.m.MST, followed by a second match at 2:30 p.m. MST. This two-match road trip provides an possibility for the Vandals to regroup and seek their first win of the season.
