Es Devlin Screenshare: New Installation at The Vinyl Factory Reverb

Es Devlin’s⁣ Screenshare: A Cinematic Installation Built From 35 Years of sketchbooks

London-based artist and stage designer Es Devlin unveils Screenshare, a captivating new installation currently featured as ⁢part of the Vinyl Factory: Reverb at ⁤180 Studios. This unique commission, a collaboration between The‍ Vinyl factory and 180 Studios, ⁤transforms Devlin’s personal sketchbook pages‍ into a dynamic cinema screen, offering visitors an immersive and interactive art experience.

A Personal Archive Brought⁢ to Life

Screenshare isn’t simply a visual display; it’s a deeply personal journey through ⁣Devlin’s creative process. The installation is constructed from recreations of her sketchbooks, accumulated over the past 35 ⁣years. These aren’t pristine, polished drawings, but rather a raw and intimate collection⁣ of ideas, explorations, and ‍memories. “The sketches have been made over the past 35 years: some are ⁤drawings of London species, some drawings of my kids, lots of process drawings, traces of me trying to work out ideas or ‌share ‌them with collaborators,” Devlin explains, highlighting the⁤ diverse and deeply personal nature of the ⁢source material.

Visitors are invited to watch a short film projected onto this unique “screen,” and then, remarkably,⁣ to take‌ a ⁣page from the installation with them ‍– a tangible piece of Devlin’s artistic history. This act of participation blurs the⁤ lines between observer and creator,⁤ allowing the audience⁤ to become an integral part ⁤of the artwork itself.

Sound⁢ and Vision: An Immersive Experience

The visual ⁤experience of Screenshare is powerfully complemented by it’s sonic landscape. The‍ film’s soundtrack features an extract from an atlas⁣ of Es Devlin, a record created in collaboration with Polyphonia last year. This integration of ‌sound and⁤ vision underscores Devlin’s multidisciplinary approach to art, creating a⁣ truly immersive ⁤experience for the viewer.

This isn’t Devlin’s first collaboration ⁤with The ‌Vinyl Factory. In 2021, she‍ staged BlueSkyWhite as ‍part of the LUX exhibition, also held at⁤ 180 Studios, demonstrating a‍ continued partnership focused on innovative and boundary-pushing artistic endeavors.
