Warner Bros.Revelation is exploring the possibility of licensing its DC Comics characters to Universal Studios for use in theme parks, a move that could dramatically reshape the competitive landscape of immersive entertainment. The potential deal, currently under consideration, would allow Universal to build attractions based on iconic heroes like Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman, expanding beyond its existing Marvel and Harry Potter partnerships.
This strategic shift comes as both companies invest heavily in expanding their theme park offerings. For Warner Bros. Discovery, licensing DC characters represents a potential new revenue stream and broader brand exposure, while for Universal, it would provide a powerful counterweight to Disney’s dominance and further fuel expansion plans including its recently opened Epic Universe in Orlando and future parks in Texas and Nevada.
Universal recently debuted Epic Universe at its Orlando resort and has announced expansion plans for Nevada and Texas. Disney, meanwhile, is forging ahead with a new theme park in Abu dhabi, alongside enhancements to its existing resorts in Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris.
Currently, Universal already operates Marvel Super Hero Island at Universal Studios Orlando. The possibility of adding DC characters has generated excitement among theme park enthusiasts, especially given Universal’s accomplished partnership with Warner Bros. on the Harry Potter franchise.
netflix is also entering the experiential space with “Netflix House,” immersive experiences inspired by its popular shows.
