Margot Robbie Aims for Gothic romance Landmark with ‘Wuthering heights’ Adaptation
Margot Robbie is setting enterprising goals for her upcoming portrayal of Cathy Earnshaw in a new film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s Wuthering Heights, hoping it will resonate with audiences likewise James Cameron’s Titanic did for a previous generation. Robbie, fresh off the success of Barbie, is deeply immersed in the project, collaborating closely with costume designer Jacqueline durran and director Emerald Fennell to create a visually arresting and emotionally charged interpretation of the classic novel.
Durran’s work on the film promises a ”head-spinning fashion fantasia,” with Cathy wearing approximately 50 different looks inspired by a wide range of ancient and cinematic sources, including Gone with the Wind, Sissi, Singin’ in the Rain, and the work of designers like Alaïa, Chanel, Dolce & gabbana, Thierry Mugler, Schiaparelli, and Vivienne Westwood. Vintage jewelry from Chanel was even incorporated directly into Robbie’s hair and costumes during production.
Robbie’s stylist, Andrew Mukamal, visited the Wuthering Heights set to absorb the film’s aesthetic and is preparing a red-carpet wardrobe that will blend custom designs with runway pieces, timed to coincide with the january couture shows. Robbie also revealed that her friends are planning a cathy-themed “bachelorette” party to celebrate the film’s release, though she admits she’s leaving the details to them, stating, “I have no idea what we’re going to do. I’m normally the planner in our group, but they’re like, ‘We’ve got this.’ I said, ‘Just tell me where to be and what to wear.'”
