Kumail Nanjiani is offering a glimpse inside the anxieties that keep us awake at night with his new stand-up comedy special, “Night Thoughts,” premiering december 19 on Hulu. The special, filmed in Chicago-where Nanjiani launched his comedy career-delves into the relatable struggles of overthinking, apology-driven conflict avoidance, and even the unexpected world of cat medication.
“Night Thoughts” arrives as audiences increasingly seek humor as a coping mechanism for everyday stressors.Nanjiani’s exploration of anxiety resonates in a culture grappling with heightened awareness of mental health, offering a comedic outlet for shared experiences. The special is part of Hulu’s ”Hularious” series, positioning it within a growing catalog of stand-up performances.
In the trailer, Nanjiani poses a question many can relate to: “You guys get night thoughts? When your laying in bed in the middle of the night and you can’t sleep and yoru brain’s like ‘here’s something new for you to worry about!'” He further explains, “Night thoughts are like day thoughts except they hate you.”
Nanjiani wrote, performed, and executive produced “Night Thoughts,” collaborating with Molly Mandel, Emily V. Gordon, Elan Gale, Bernie Schaeffer, and Bill Dixon as additional executive producers. Bill Benz directed the special.
Viewers can also catch Nanjiani in the upcoming James L. Brooks comedy, “Ella McKay,” set to release in theaters December 12.
