San Antonio School Bus Crash Sends Students Home

School Bus Involved in Crash Near San ​Antonio; Students Evaluated

A ​school bus crash occurred early Thursday, december 4th, impacting ⁤students of the Somerset Autonomous‍ School ⁢District. ‍The incident took place around‌ 6 a.m. near Highway ‍16 and Encino Road, on the southwestern outskirts⁣ of San Antonio.

Somerset ISD officials confirmed that all students on board‌ were ⁣evaluated following the crash. Three‌ students were⁢ released ‌to their families at the scene. ‌A school bus aide required further ‍medical attention and,according‍ to a Facebook post from​ the district,is currently in stable condition.⁤ The district expressed optimism for a “smooth and speedy recovery” for the aide, and reported the bus driver ‍is doing well.

Somerset ISD serves a wide geographic area of‌ 86 ‌miles, encompassing seven campuses: ⁢three ⁤elementary⁣ schools, two middle schools, a high school, and an early college ‌leadership academy. The destination campus of the students involved in the crash has not been ‌released.

The ‍district covers Somerset, atascosa, Poteet, ⁤Von Ormy, a ‍portion of San ⁤Antonio, and ‍surrounding rural⁢ areas. Enrollment for the 2023-24​ school⁤ year ​was just over 4,200 students, according ​to data compiled by the Texas Tribune.
