School Bus Involved in Crash Near San Antonio; Students Evaluated
A school bus crash occurred early Thursday, december 4th, impacting students of the Somerset Autonomous School District. The incident took place around 6 a.m. near Highway 16 and Encino Road, on the southwestern outskirts of San Antonio.
Somerset ISD officials confirmed that all students on board were evaluated following the crash. Three students were released to their families at the scene. A school bus aide required further medical attention and,according to a Facebook post from the district,is currently in stable condition. The district expressed optimism for a “smooth and speedy recovery” for the aide, and reported the bus driver is doing well.
Somerset ISD serves a wide geographic area of 86 miles, encompassing seven campuses: three elementary schools, two middle schools, a high school, and an early college leadership academy. The destination campus of the students involved in the crash has not been released.
The district covers Somerset, atascosa, Poteet, Von Ormy, a portion of San Antonio, and surrounding rural areas. Enrollment for the 2023-24 school year was just over 4,200 students, according to data compiled by the Texas Tribune.
