MERIP: Remembering Joe Stork & Supporting Critical Middle East Analysis

by Lucas Fernandez – World Editor

Support Critical Middle East Analysis‍ This Giving Tuesday

As the year draws to a close, MERIP reflects on a period of growth and impactful work,‌ all made possible by the dedication of its community.⁤ We recently celebrated ⁣the⁣ legacy ‌of Joe,whose commitment fostered decades of critical analysis and a supportive‍ environment⁢ for our institution to‍ thrive. This spirit of ‌community remains⁣ central to⁤ everything we do, ⁤even as much of our work‍ now takes place remotely.

Over the past ‍year,MERIP⁤ has published three outstanding issues of Middle East Report ⁣(Issues 313,314,and 315-316),launched a new podcast, hosted numerous events, and unveiled a redesigned website - all⁣ thanks to the generous support of our readers.

Looking ‌ahead to 2026, MERIP is poised to expand its reach and deepen its analysis of the complex challenges facing the ⁣Middle East and the world. The‍ past year has‍ brought meaningful developments, including ongoing consequences ⁢from the situation in Syria under⁤ President Ahmad al-Shara’a – encompassing ⁣the pursuit of justice for past crimes, continued Israeli land grabs,⁣ and the ongoing quest ⁣for Kurdish autonomy. We’ve also witnessed ‍the ‌continuation of the genocide in Gaza, escalating dispossession in Palestine, and increased regional tensions with attacks impacting Lebanon, Yemen, and Qatar, currently shadowed by a ‌fragile and frequently violated ceasefire.MERIP⁣ has responded with incisive reporting and rigorous‍ analysis, prioritizing the voices of dissidents and activists on the ground.

MERIP operates with a lean structure, ⁣relying heavily on volunteer contributions from our editorial committee and a fully part-time staff. This dedication allows us to produce a leading publication like Middle East Report with a fraction of the budget available to our peers. However, even the most committed efforts have ⁢limits.

This Giving Tuesday, we ask for your support to ensure MERIP can continue to provide vital, autonomous analysis. No amount is too small – the ‌average donation is $100. If you haven’t already donated this year,‍ please ‍consider making a⁢ contribution today at https://www.merip.org/donate/. If you’ve already given, thank you! Consider a monthly contribution ‍or a final boost before the year ends.

You can also show your support by‍ visiting our merchandise shop, featuring locally and union-made tote bags and posters, with‌ 100% of ⁣proceeds directly supporting MERIP’s operations and mission.

In ⁤Solidarity,

James ryan
