LAS VEGAS – The Wyoming Cowboys wrestling team is poised to compete in the prestigious Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational this weekend, marking a meaningful early-season test for the programme.
the tournament, held December 1-2, presents an opportunity for the cowboys to gauge their progress against a challenging field and build momentum as they approach the dual meet portion of their schedule. Wyoming finished 12th at last year’s Cliff Keen Invite, accumulating 38.5 points with placers Joey Novak and Jared Hill.
Headlining Wyoming’s 10-man travel roster is No. 4 Joey Novak (197),who is 2-1 this season with a ranked win and aims to improve upon his fourth-place finish at the 2024 Cliff Keen Invite. No. 11 Eddie Neitenbach (184) enters the competition with a 3-1 record, including a ranked win and two technical falls; his sole loss was a narrow 10-7 decision to No. 5 Dylan Fishback of Ohio State.
Also competing for the Cowboys will be No. 24 Chrisitan Carroll (HWT), who is 2-2 on the year and seeking his first ranked win, and No. 24 gabe Willochell (149), who holds a 1-1 record. No. 29 Riley Davis (174) recently broke into the rankings following an upset at the National Duals. Rounding out the roster are Sefton Douglass (125), Luke Willochell (133), john Alden (141), Antonio Avila (157), and Sloan Swan (165).
Following the Cliff Keen Invite, Wyoming will return to Laramie to host No. 1 Penn State, the four-time defending national champion, on December 13 at 6 p.m. inside the Arena-Auditorium.
