UTSA Details Implementation of Texas Senate Bill 8
San Antonio, TX – December 3, 2025 - Teh University of texas at San Antonio today detailed its plan for complying with Texas senate Bill 8 (SB 8), legislation prohibiting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs in higher education. University leadership announced the changes in a campus-wide communication, outlining specific adjustments to policies and practices effective instantly.
SB 8, signed into law by governor Greg Abbott on June 14, 2023, mandates the elimination of DEI offices, programs, and training at Texas public universities. The law impacts student recruitment,financial aid,hiring practices,and curriculum advancement,requiring institutions to prioritize merit rather than considering diversity factors. UTSA’s response aims to balance legal compliance with its commitment to fostering an inclusive campus environment for its approximately 34,000 students.
UTSA president Taylor Eighmy affirmed the university’s dedication to adhering to the new law while maintaining its core values.
